Sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge
for in
the receipt of your despatch No.264 of the 3rd.ultimo, in
which you inform me that you leave it to my discretion "he-
ther or not the appointment of Assistant Medical Officer
of Health shall be provided from the Estimates for 1901.
2. I have given this question care-
ful consideration, end I have arrived at the conclusion that
in view of the large increases made to the Sanitary Staff
by the appointment of a Chief Inspector of Nulsences last
year and 5 additional Inspectors of Nuisances this year,
and of a further proposal no mede by the Sanitary Roard
for creating a special class of three Sanitary Inspectors
to be obtainee from home, it would be premature to create
the new appointment of Assistant Medical Officer of Health.
3. The new proposal made by the Board
is as follows:-
The rates of pay for Inspectors of
Nuisances recommended by the Committee which has been en-
quiring into the salaries of subordinate officers and whose
report will be forwarded to you shortly, are as follows:→
1st.Class Inspector $1440 to $1560 in 2 years.
2nd.Cless $1080 to $1320 in 4 years.
3rd.Class $900 to $1200 in 5 years.
